We’re starting school again today. I’ve wanted to start back school every day this week, but I haven’t been able to pull it off. My goal for the year was to get up early every day, so I could get the kids going better without getting too overwhelmed, and missing that time in the morning where learning seems to be best for the kids. This morning I turned my alarm off and kept holding the baby in my arms…again. Maybe I’ll renew the resolution when Ingrid is back to sleeping on her usual routine. When she was sick, she got all mixed up.
I will find some routine, though. I am determined. I love taking a month off for Christmas. I’m usually pretty desperate at the end of it, though.
After our bout of sickness, my freezer meal supply is down near empty, so I have some cooking to do with the little kids while the big kids are doing their schoolwork. Actually the big kids don’t want to miss out, so I’m bribing them with kitchen work. One sheet of math and then you can turn the next round of wheat grinding. Get your spelling list mastered, and you can measure out the next recipe for me.
So far it’s working.
Knut has work off today. He’s making some modifications to his ski waxing bench this morning, and plans to take a kid or two out skiing in this frigid weather this afternoon.
So far today is slowly going back to routine. It’s like fresh air is blowing through this house.

January 3, 2014 at 6:20 amWe’re itching for the routine again too. We don’t have school yet since my kids are too little but my husband goes back to work after two weeks off, and our life picks up its normal pace again on Monday. I am a little eager and a little sad. Your post sounds lovely, a bit of routine, a bit leisurely. And isn’t cuddling babies in bed in the morning about the best there is?
