I’ve been feeling a bit lost lately, in the writing department. I’m not sure if it’s a lack of things to say, or so much to say that I don’t have time to write out it all out. I have never been very good at small talk. I think it’s classic writer’s block.
The lovely thing about blogging, is that if words fail: just take some pictures. That works too.
It’s cold around here. The windchill yesterday was around -60 degrees F. It’s not supposed to warm up until midweek. So until then, you can find me by our fireplace. I have lived here for a good portion of my life, and I have never, ever seen it this cold before. No, I don’t want to go outside and experience it. I’ll experience the frost on my windows, thankyouverymuch.
I am really glad we don’t have animals in the barn yet. I’m trying to imagine what milking a goat this morning in the barn might have been like. Do we really want to get animals this year? I’m beginning to question.
Negative 60. Degrees.
Yesterday I missed church…again. It’s now been 2 weeks that I’ve missed, and I’m feeling so mixed up. Missing church messes up my whole week. It’s where I get grounded, and literally it’s been feeling like my brain has been floating all over the place. Sunday school was cancelled due to the extreme weather, and we decided not to bring all the kids out in negative 60 degree wind chills to go to the worship service yesterday. Knut went in with the boys, but the little girls still weren’t 100% healthy, and Silje stayed home with me because she wanted to, and I didn’t mind her staying.
So it goes without saying, but I’ll say it anyway (writer’s block and all…) that I’m so thankful for our shelter. I’m thankful for heat. I’m thankful for wool socks. Deep breath…I’m thankful for this world I live in where it gets so freakin’ cold. Whew. That hurt a bit. That’s what Ann Voskamp calls the “hard eucharisteo.” I’m not sure if this weather was God’s intention or the result of the fall, but either way it’s here.
Stay warm, friends.

January 6, 2014 at 7:22 pmMy husband made a point of telling us yesterday that we were colder than Antarctica. That is just not right.

January 6, 2014 at 9:10 pmWow -60 I can’t imagine. Hopefully this weather will be one for the record books and not typical from now on. Lets hope. I think it would be pretty difficult to milk a goat in this weather!

January 7, 2014 at 3:21 amMy guys work so hard in this cold! It’s hard to keep everything running and to make sure all the stock have water that’s not frozen. As dairy farmers, there are no days off. 🙂 Cows need to be milked twice a day, every. single. day. No matter what.
I feel bad for them, but there’s nothing to do but do it.

January 7, 2014 at 2:20 pmI was going to tell you yesterday that on days when you miss church, you could download the Insight for Living app with Chuck Swindoll and listen to some of his messages. That is, if your internet is working correctly. 🙂
