My Life

family, vacation

Pardon the Phoenix pictures at the top of the post.  They had such good memories shown that I just had to squish them in somewhere.  Papa (my step-dad) taught David and Silje how to play chess and they (especially David) became obsessed while we where there.
Solveig is now walking more than crawling…a switch that took place while we were down there, much to my mom’s delight.
My grandpa and Solveig.  He and Grandma came by the night before we left to see us one more time.  This time he didn’t recognize me, but he loved me just the same, which is so true to his nature.  While we snuggled on the couch, I told him “You know what I’m never going to forget Grandpa?  I’m never going to forget those weekends when I was in jr. high and we would come up to your little ranch in Dewey every weekend so you could teach me confirmation.  I’ll never forget you teaching me about God’s Word those many hours.”
He smiled squeezed me tighter.  “I bet I would have liked that.”
Onto homelife…

I woke up to a messy kitchen this morning.  So I worked on those as David helped me put a batch of bread out to rise.

I’m still wearing my bathrobe.

There is Tupperware scattered all across my dirty kitchen floor.  It’s the sure sign there is a mobile baby in the house.

I have still not unpacked our suitcases.

In fact, there are several containers full of stuff from our trip in various rooms on the house.

The car is still a mess.

We did school yesterday and got a lot done.  The evidence of that is still on the dining room table.

Solveig is sleeping now for her morning nap, and actually only got up twice last night.  We’re in the “I just learned how to walk so I’m going to wake up every 2 hours at night again” phase that each of my kids have gone through.  Good thing she’s so darn cute…

I’m thinking about doing a book purge and going through all of our bookshelves and getting rid of the books that we never read and never will read, or ones that are torn to shreds.

The kids are being great this morning.  They’re playing so well.  Knut made me coffee and let me sleep in since I get up with Solveig at night.  He is a good man.

I got a little chicken basket for the kids to gather eggs with.  I’ve been getting nervous about them running in the house from the coop with 5-6 eggs in their hands.  I got it at this cute little antique store in town (next to where the kids’ choir practice is) and have shamefully had my eye on it for a few months.  The lady who owns the shop basically said “finally!” when I got it.

I can’t believe how much I like cooking again.  It’s nice to get a break, because I didn’t realize how much I really enjoy it.  I’m happy to be back on our farm, with our chickens.  Lena is crazy exhausted from staying at my friend’s house with the dairy farm.  She looks way more in shape than when we left her.

Life will slowly catch up.  I’m sure of it.  I’m in no rush, though.

The follow blog by email button was on the right hand side just below the “followers” pictures. I just added the subscription option just above the pictures. Thanks for the suggestion!

Hi Gretchen, love the photos always. I’m sad that your loving Grandpa didn’t recognize you (as we usually mean that phrase), but his heart recognized you, I think. I’m so very, very grateful that we will have new bodies and new minds: when we join our family members who have gone ahead, there won’t be any of the hindrances that we’ve had to accept now. –Sharon

Sorry, I have to leave another track: just went back up to look at the photo of Solveig and your Grandpa again. What a marvelous photo: she’s looking at him with great love and trust and affection….and he’s looking at you the same way. Dusty keyboard here. –Sharon

I teared up when you wrote your Grandpa’s response…that is beautiful.
I, too, was so taken by the photo of him and Solveig. Treaures…

Ha! I just caught the part about Lena being in shape from staying here! Our other two dogs must’ve been her workout buddies. I need to get me some o’ those…
