New Things

reflecting

This year I didn’t even remember that people make New Year’s Resolutions until New Years Eve.  Someone asked me if I made any resolutions, and I thought to myself “What do I want to do next year.”  I’ve always thought of resolutions as fun way to set new goals for myself, though I have never even kept track of whether or not these goals made it the whole year.

This year I have 2 resolutions, or more like 2 “ideas of things I think would be cool to do this year.”

#1 work out once a week.  You may laugh, but this is the very first year that I’ve made any resolution in regards to weight/health.  I’ve always been a small person and have always struggled with keeping weight on.  However, ever since I turned 30 I seem to have acquired something of a gut that I find myself sucking in a bit too much in public.  I used to work out all the time.  Lately, though, I figure caring for my 4 kids is my workout.

It’s more than the gut, though.  I don’t need to lose weight, and in fact I could stand to gain at least 10 lbs.  I just feel like I want to get strong, and want to not be so achy all the time, and work up a good sweat every once in awhile.  I don’t like working out, but I like having worked out, and I want to chase some good endorphins this year.  So once a week is my mild goal.  I don’t think my brain can wrap around much more than that.

I told Knut my resolution, and he said I needed some new running shoes.  He says my other running shoes are shameful and always have been.  I told him they were not shameful when I bought them (as a junior in high school….ahem.)  So when we were down in Phoenix I got a good deal on some new shoes.

#2 This may seem to counteract #1, but I want to enjoy cooking more, and feel more creative and less chore-like in that department. So this year my goal is to try a new recipe that I’ve never tried before once a week.  It doesn’t have to be a whole meal, but it can’t just be a new variation of bread.  I’m thinking a new main dish or a new side.  I do try new recipes fairly often, but this will help make sure that I’m broadening my horizons on a consistent basis.

One change to my normal resolutions, is I normally set goals for my business or for learning new knitting skills.  Last year keeping up with those goals kind of consumed me at times, so this year my goal is to not stress out about knitting or my store.  I have no doubt I will still work on my patterns or knitting a little every day, but I no longer feel that a resolution is needed to step anything up.  I feel that it is as stepped up as I feel comfortable and anymore would take over other things that I should be doing.

What are your resolutions this year?

I love your resolutions! I just can’t picture you with a gut, though – even a little one! 😉
