I’ll get back into routine soon here, and perhaps get this post out on time in future weeks. We were gone (again) for the weekend having Christmas celebration #5 of the year. I enjoy Christmas so much, but the years where we have to celebrate it 5 times kind of suck the joy out of it for me. It becomes a whirlwind of stuff that makes my life tough for a good month.
When we were at my parent’s house, my mom and I talked long about this one night. So many things as a mother are hard but good. They are so worth it, but they are just so hard.
Anyway, we’re back now. I have to unpack once again. Do some laundry, again. I have to do some more shopping for food and run a bunch of errands to catch up, again. I’m seriously behind on some of my business things and I just won’t get to them until later this week because essentials like making food for my family somehow take center stage.
I know this sounds like I’m just complaining a lot so I’ll try to turn it around a bit.
-Solveig is sleeping so much better. She’s allowing me some good chunks of time now and is so much more herself during the day. I think her teeth aren’t bothering her nearly as much and she’s starting to pass the “I just learned to walk” sleeping strike.
-Our kids travel so well. Seriously they have been out of routine for so long and have done so well in spite of that. We’ve spent so much quality time together and have had so few meltdowns that it has been really a joy.
-We got to go visit our old church yesterday from when we used to live in the big city. I had no idea that there were still so many people there who remember and love us. We left there when David was 6 months old and Silje was nearly 2. Everything from the sermon, the music, the fellowship just spoke to my soul and felt so sweet. Leaving that church was the biggest (and really only) downside to moving out to the farm. It’s been over 5 years and we still miss them.
-The kids asked this morning at breakfast if we can do some school. They miss it. That just says so much to me that a homeschooling mother really needs to hear from her kids sometimes.
-Our old van made it through all the trips. At 190,000 miles, and in the shop with problems less than a week before our drive down to Phoenix, I was worried if it would make it all the way. That old sweet van, though, has never failed us.
-There’s a church in town that lets moms like me drop off our kids (ages preschool on down) for the morning so we can do whatever we like. So I get to (free of charge) drop of Elias and Solveig for some really and take just the older 2 with me into town. We’ll probably stop by the library, get some groceries, and other errands. I like to think of it as “quiet errand day.” Silje and David are actually quite helpful to have along now. That should probably have it’s own point.
-Silje and David are actually quite helpful.
-Over the last few weeks bouncing our family all over the place, Knut and I have had so many times where we make each other laugh so hard we cry. We had some really fun times.
