What Got Done

Uncategorized

Christmas morning we had our egg-bake and homemade cinnamon roll brunch on our fine china.  The kids love the fancy dishes and sparkling juice in their goblets.  I have to admit, I love doing it.

I had a few late nights working on the bunnies.  It was about 1:00am when I decided that I actually preferred the look of no elastic on the dress sleeves, (which was convenient, time-wise).  For Christmas morning, I had the bunnies, a sewn dress for each one, and their little knit shawls done.  The finishing work for the knitted dressed didn’t get finished, but it was 2:00am Christmas Eve when I just decided I was no longer being productive, and what was done was what they’d get.

Like most of our homemade gifts, the kids aren’t drawn to them first, but they enjoy them more long term.  After the big present opening, Silje started looking more in depth at the bunnies, and loved that they were all hand stitched.  I think as she’s doing some sewing herself, she appreciates it more.  I then brought out the knitted dresses that weren’t finished, and apologized that I didn’t get more of the bunny wardrobe done, and both Silje and Solveig wanted their dresses done immediately.  So Christmas day and afterward, I cast off the sleeves and wove in the ends.  It took a few days to get even that done, but now the knit dresses are completely done.

I told Silje that the cotton bunny dresses were a pretty easy pattern and she could probably do it.  So she’s excited to make a whole wardrobe for hers.  Solveig has abandoned her baby dolls that she sleeps with for her “Posy” bunny as she calls it.  That’s the biggest compliment that I can think of.

We really wanted to go skiing as a family yesterday, as the weather was as perfect as you can imagine.  Unfortunately, the late nights and skipped naps caught up with all of us and our household was sick.  We’re on the road to recovery, but Grammy and Papa are on their way back to Arizona today.  As always, their visits are too short.

Ingrid has been taking steps all the time now.  She’s still not confident in it, but she’s definitely on the move.  I cannot believe how big she is getting!

All in all, my favorite part of this Christmas has been the lack of stress that it usually has.  It wasn’t stress-free, but the level of stress was markably lower, and our focus on Jesus as the gift was so much greater, even though we missed several of our Jesse Tree devotionals.  We did what we could, and the rest just sorted out.  Just as it should.
