Yarn Along

Uncategorized

Only a few inches of knitting a sleeve this week.  That’s been my problem.  I knit for sanity and that has been in short supply.  I shut down yesterday.  I cancelled school for at least the morning and turned toons on for the kids so I could stare at the wall for awhile.  I wish I were kidding or making some illustration.  Nope, I was literally staring at a wall.

I had so many things to conquer that required my whole mind and my mind seemed to stop working right.  I needed some peace and some escape from the piles of laundry and school papers and unpacking and to-do lists a mile long.  I had not one clean, quiet space in the house, so I tidied a corner and just sat there while Ingrid slept and the other kids played hard downstairs with the t.v. on.  I didn’t read.  I didn’t pray.  I wasn’t really thinking about anything.  I just sat.  My mind needed rest.  I was physically fine, but mentally I was exhausted.

So I followed the advice of a friend I met yesterday while the kids were at chess club at the library before choir practice.  I went to bed early whether or not anything was done.  Forget trying to stay up late and catch up the house some more.  Just sleep every hour possible.

This morning I’m feeling much better.  Not quite full speed, but I can at least put some thoughts together a bit easier.  I haven’t looked at my to-do list yet, though.  Once I start looking at that I may start stressing again.  Right now I’m just sipping coffee and typing.  I’m reading just the perfect word for today here from the author of the book pictured above.

For reading, I’ve picked up One Thousand Gifts which has been on my reading pile for ages.  I was thinking it would be more devotional, but so far it’s like a memoir, but incredibly engaging.  When do I read?  Well, when I’m hiding in the bathroom or soaking in the bath at night, trying to quiet my brain so I can sleep.  One of the best distractions for a busy mind is a good book.

Linking up with Ginny again for Yarn Along Wednesdays!

((hug)) you have a lot on your plate right now. just try and do one thing at a time. maybe you can shorten the list in to doable chunks instead of one huge list.
    and yes! SLEEP!

I’ve been there, as have many others. Getting good sleep (when you can) was good advice. Praying for you!

I make a list of everything I need to do on paper, and then rip them into individual strips, then I fold each one up and place in a hat or whatever, and choose one. This way you it’s kind of a game and you don’t get overwhelmed when you see the entire list at one glance.

I thought I would share a blog link with you. It has SO fed my soul. This blog is written by Melinda Evans, missionary with Food for the Hungry. The last entry she made before going to be with the Lord was on March 5, 2013. Hopefully it will feed your soul as well. Her family all contracted the dengue fever. They survived, she didn’t.
The point of the post, however, is to show how much we need the Lord and how empty we can become because we rely on our own strength too much. I know I’m guilty of that. http://www.bringinglovetolife.blogspot.com/
