Yarn Along

knitting

Welcome to the weekly Yarn Along.  Continued thanks to Ginny for hosting this event every Wednesday on her blog.  The Yarn Along is all about sharing what you have been knitting and reading in the last week.
Hold your horses, what’s that in the picture!?!  It’s a story.  It’s fiction.  It’s a novel!  This book has been on my “to read” list since Silje was born, or around then.  After reading last week’s post about how I longed to read a good novel, my husband nudged me onto taking the time to do so.  He thought it would refresh me from the emotional mess I’ve been in with old memories creeping up and the busy-ness of summer taking over.  He thought it might help me feel more myself, even if everything doesn’t get done.
He was right.
Today is our anniversary.  We’ve been married 9 years.  He will probably work.  We’re getting each other passports for our anniversary gift to each other this year because we hope to take a vacation out of the country just the 2 of us next year for the big 1-0.  We don’t know where yet.  We’ve only eliminated one country so far…ours.  Knut’s experience out of the USA consists of bartering for the afternoon in a Mexican border town.  When he was visiting my family in Arizona before we were married we took him there on a day trip.
There’s a world to see.  I think our hearts want to go somewhere in Europe and our wallets want to go to the Caribbean on a cruise.  Both sound fun, though, don’t they?  Neither one of us has been to either place.

I put my design journal in the picture, because I am still mulling over, and haven’t cast on the little boy sweater that is still lying in there.  I haven’t had the brain energy to start it.

To add to the pressure, I realized that  the county fair is just a few tiny weeks away and I promised myself last year that I would submit some knitted item.  I’ve never submitted something to the fair before, and as silly as it is, it’s an item on my “bucket list.”  Last year I had an amazing pair of longies to submit, but forgot to remove the picture of them from my store, and they sold the day before I was supposed to submit them.

So I’m not sure if I have time to finish a sweater before the fair, and I must submit something and not put it off another year.  I’m wondering if I should whip up a pair of these fingerless mitts for myself with some leftover yarn I have from Christmas presents.  I have wanted to make them for myself for awhile, although I’ve never had fingerless mitts before and don’t know if I would use them.  I want them though, and think they’re cute, and have the softest yarn to make them with on hand.

Hopefully they’ll be a quick project, and I can put for the energy to make them flawless for the judging.  I’ve been waivering too long in thinking up my next project and my fingers have been itching to knit and my mind has had trouble settling on a project.

Next week, though, there should be something to show besides a journal of “someday” projects.

I have dreams of entering something baked or canned in our fair someday.
You should follow your dreams and put some knitting out there!

    Happy Anniversary!

I’m so glad that you took some time to do something nice for yourself, even if it was just to finally start reading A Tree Grows in Brooklyn.

I hope you do enter something in the county fair. Good luck!

I love, love, love that book. I have seen the movie many times and each time I watch it I cry and gain some more insight. I also grew up in an alcoholic home in an apartment building in the middle of a large city, so maybe that is why it is meaningful. I hope you enjoy the book and Happy Anniversary! You have a wonderful family.

We’re planning a big trip for our anniversary next year too, 15 years! We’re thinking Europe but we’re not sure if the wallet agrees!

Find something to submit to the fair, I’ve always wanted to too.

Happy anniversary!! 🙂 You should update your ‘about us’ page (it still says 8 years). I just found you over on Top Mommy Blogs, though apparently we’re both followers of Storing Up Treasures. Nice to meet you! (sort of)
