We had a fun 4th of July, as always. I have lots of pictures to share, but I’ll start out by sharing what I know you really wanted to see:
The pies. The pie table is legendary at the party, and this year did not disappoint.
Now…onto other pictures of my adorable children…
Silje and David eating watermelon at the end of the dock.
Solveig and Great-Grandma Alice. Great-Grandma was certain the Solveig recognizes her every time they meet. I’m pretty sure as well. Solveig loves to study her face.
One of my closest cousins, Juliana, drove over to our party from Maryland with her husband Ashish, and their 2 little treasures: Safina and Serina. Well, they happened to be a few hours away and couldn’t resist driving the extra leg of their trip to spend the day with us. Unfortunately, I was so consumed drinking in their presence that I got few good pictures of any of them. Sigh. Why do I ever put the camera down?
David left the water for food. That’s about it.
The heat this year drove the crowd of the party into the water or shade.
We enjoyed the company of family that we don’t get to see often. (This is Jessica who is married to Knut’s cousin. She and her husband Karl are both professional musicians out in Connecticut. She plays the viola, and he the cello. She has a blog too!) I have to admit, I absolutely love watching people take delight in my children. She has a healthy obsession with Elias’ cheeks (as Solveig has a healthy obsession with her hair.)
We ended the day with some sparklers and Knut and I were so tired we had no desire to stay and watch fireworks. The kids were asleep as soon as their heads hit the pillow, and some sooner.
What a beautiful day!
As always, I thought of you and the rest of the family yesterday. Thank you for the pictures. They made my heart glad.
So what was your contribution to the pie table? I see a strawberry pie at the end of the table…that’s my guess!
I truly think you are blessed to be so near to family. On holidays especially I miss having family around. And with James’ work schedule, most holidays feel like any other day. He sleeps until 1pm and leaves for work usually at 7pm, so we can’t go too far. Throw in naps from 2-4, and our whole day is pretty much shot. Whenever I see photos of family gatherings like yours, I always hope you realize how fortunate you are.
Great pics…those pies are amazing!!
Blogger question..how do you crop your pictures to have rounded corners? i always see Melissa has framed pics…i don’t know how to do that….care to share?
Penny- I made the triple berry pie with the lattice top that’s on the right edge of the picture, along with a pumpkin pie using some of our overwhelming abundance of pumpkin still in our freezer from the garden last year.
Kimberly- I use the picasa free site for editing, and it connects with blogger very easily to upload pictures. The rounded corners are just an option in that editing program.
wow, does that ever look inviting.. It doesn’t get much better than being with family on a lake!!
I just KNEW the latice top one was yours. Thanks for the pictures! It always brings back fond memories of the 4th at the Lake.
Love the pictures! Did you get any of the crowd in the water? I think we set a record for the most in the water together on the 4th. I think it raised the water level! It was a beautiful day. Not quite 100 were there this year. Hopefully more relatives will be able to come next year!
Linda
Wow those pies look yummy!
Wow! Thanks for the shout out! I definitely adore your children. We just got back from the lake and seeing this post reminds me what catching up I have to do on my blog!
