I won’t claim to have all “holy” motives out there, but I thought I’d lay them out. I added a “Top Mommy Blog” button to the left. If you click on it, it will bring you to the site, but you’ll be lost if you’re looking for a place to vote once you get there. By clicking the button, the vote is set automatically, and is tallied the next day. You can vote daily (and please do!), or every few days if that’s how often you visit me here. If you’re like my mom and visit here multiple times a day, know that only your first click per day will count.
You might wonder, why vote? What for? Well, the vague but complete answer is: it gets this blog noticed by people who might not otherwise notice it.
Now, I know getting noticed has it’s good and bad points. I’ve tried to cover my blog with various safety features, but overall, I feel that keeping it up and being noticed might be a good direction. Here’s a list why, and I’ll say in advance that some reasons are holy, and some are human. As I am a saved by grace sinner, that’s pretty consistent.
1) I don’t want to hide under a bush. Now, I know I’m not all that great, but I DO KNOW that God has done, is doing, and will do some amazing things with me and my family. I will not fall into the trap of claiming to be a Christian who knows everything, or is doing everything right. I will say that God’s light is in me, and it’s my hope that if I am transparent, people won’t see me, but they’ll see Him. That will take some humility on my part, and God is pretty good at getting me there as often as I meet with Him. I don’t want to shut my family off from the world to privately live for God. I want to shout from the rooftops that I’m messed up and there is a God who not only loves me, but promises to walk alongside me and carries my burdens. Getting read by non-Christians, is important to me because I don’t have that many avenues in my situation to reach them. I don’t intend to make this blog a living tract or get all preachy, but as God brings things to my mind, and teaches ME things, I want to sort them out here so that others may know something about God through it.
2) It encourages me to keep writing. You have no idea how dumb I feel writing a lot of the posts that I write. Sometimes I think no one cares. Most people who visit here, according to my stat tracker, do not leave a comment. Voting encourages me to know that continuing to write is important.
3) In an ideal world, it would bring more traffic, thus the profit of this blog. This blog, along with Nerdy Gerdy Boutique supplies Knut and my “fun money.” Thus far, advertisements on this blog (people merely clicking on ads that look interesting) have brought about $20 total, although I have not yet reached the threshold where I’ll actually get a check. I’m hoping maybe sometime next year I’ll earn enough to get a check…and Knut and I will probably waste it on something frivolous. Maybe I’ll get a massage with all that money. Or I’ll knit myself a sweater is some decedent yarn like Madelinetosh Vintage. That would last longer than a massage…I like that idea. 😉 If it were up to Knut he’d get himself a new pair of skate skis, but I’d have to blog for a few years decades to get him those. At any rate, I don’t want to load down my blog with ads, and I figure that more traffic would be a way to increase revenue…in theory. I’m not looking to have a career as a writer, and am quite content where I am now. Would I blog without the income? Absolutely. In fact, so far I am! Would I think it silly to turn down an added income? Yes.
So there you go. The good, bad, and ugly. That’s why the little vote clicky thing is on the left, as well as the bottom of this post. I won’t know who votes and who doesn’t, and I will not go as far in the extreme in the first and last of my points to say that voting for me will win someone for Christ, or win me a million dollars. It will be encouraging for me, though, and the other points are just a reality of my motivation, and I’d like to be transparent about that.

June 2, 2011 at 1:02 pmIs there an easier way to find your blog on the list to click? I would love to click everyday so you get points, however, I’m lazy and don’t have time to look through all the lists to find yours. I did type it in, but it directed me to your blog page, not where it is listed on the Vote for Me.

June 2, 2011 at 1:06 pmActually, if you just click the picture, (which brings you to the website) you have just voted. They tally up the unique people who have come from my website to theirs, and my position adjusts daily, not automatically. It’s a slow way to do it, but really easy on the voting end when you figure you just click and are done.

June 2, 2011 at 1:08 pmI may have just made it more confusing…if you click on the picture that says “vote for me” on my (this) site and you end up on their site, you have just voted. You do not need to look up my site and click a check mark anywhere.

June 2, 2011 at 1:09 pmOkay, so you actually know how many times I visit your blog every day? Well, now that I’m caught, you may as well know that I also rotate the pictures you post of the kids as background pictures on my computer so I can give them virtual kisses every day. 😉

June 2, 2011 at 1:15 pmHa! Mom, I don’t know how many times, but I’m guessing it’s a throughout the day because whenever I post, you always seem to comment or call me or have other “tells” that you’re always updated. I love it. 😉 I feel very loved!
