Yarn Along

family, knitting

Thanks again to Ginny for hosting the Wednesday Yarn Along.  I love looking at all the links on her blog on Wednesdays, and if you’d like to see who else is Yarnin’ Along, hop on over to her blog.

OK, I’m totally breaking some rules here, but here is my “official” yarn along photo.  I finished a cowl for my sister who is a freshman in college out in Colorado.  Her poor little Southern self is freezing there, I think and so I made this with a super soft baby alpaca, merino mix.  She picked out the pattern, so I think she’ll like it.  It was so fun to make, I think that I may make one for myself one of these days.

For reading I’ve been working my way through the book of Daniel.  Since I started but never finished a Beth Moore study on it awhile back, I think I may pick up the old workbook to go with this book, and see if I can dive a bit deeper.

Actually, I feel like all I’ve been doing is internet reading outside devotions these days, in figuring out how in the world to make a pdf file for my new pattern, and how to get that pdf file automatically delivered to an email upon payment.  I’m not technically savvy, and rely on google to figure out all of this language of URLs, HTMLs, PDFs.  OMGosh.

I have, in fact, finished my very first knitting pattern this week, and I can’t help myself.  I must show you pictures of the finished product.  O, and my little Solveig was just a doll during the photo session, so I may just have too many photos of her to share too.  I’m a mother.  I can’t resist.  I’m not planning on releasing this pattern until March 1st, since I still have to figure out the technical/internet part of marketing it, and wouldn’t you know, I think that’s 1000 times harder than coming up with this pattern in the first place.  Figuring out measurements from newborn to 24 months?  Easy.  Finding secure URLs?  I’m lost.  Don’t even get me started.  I will say that I think I have it figured out now, I just haven’t had a chance to test it.  I still need to double check the gauge I have it set at, and do other proofing finalizing.

Just because I’m a grown up doesn’t mean I can’t learn new things, and I’m taking it on as a personal challenge to learn something new and stay with these technological times.  My kids will not program my computer for me.  I’m determined to stay on top of it.

So are you ready for a parade of pictures?  I’m sorry.  She’s just so cute.  I tried to limit myself, but it’s so. hard.

First, the dress:

I worked really hard to make a pattern that looked hard, but was actually not hard.  It’s knit in the round, which makes it really simple, and if you haven’t tried cables, this would be a great started project to learn them.  I also wanted a pattern that would fit for awhile, and the ribbing allows for that.

Then there’s the balance of a pattern that isn’t boring, but isn’t so tedious that you can’t hold a conversation, or watch a movie while you’re knitting.  Now that may vary from person to person, but for me, this fit that bill.

Who likes to wear it?  I do!

I took pictures of it as a sundress, but she’ll be wearing it as a jumper for winter, with a long sleeve shirt underneath.  For the pictures, I roared up the fire, and took pictures in our living room, so she wouldn’t get too cold!

She has so many great faces…forgive the multitude of them!

I used this pretty raspberry colored dk weight yarn.  I thought that weight would make the pattern versatile enough for a summer sun dress or winter jumper.  Like I said, I don’t plan on having the pattern in my store or on Ravelry for another month while I sort out details.  I thought maybe I’d show a peek.  Hey, which picture should I pick for the front of the pattern?

Wow! What a beautiful dress – and such a darling little sweetheart! I love the colour you chose, too!

I think I would agree that the sixth photo shows off the dress best but I do love the ninth for showing off super sweet babyness!

Oh, honestly, Gretchen, could she get any cuter? I don’t think so! And I love the dress; almost makes me think…hey, could I knit that? I’m still working on a scarf.. due to finish in 2012… ha ha! I just never seem to KEEP at it! Maybe I should start a knitting club for grandmas? I need a good knitting grandma to lead it though..
