I’ll admit. I don’t get out much. I try to limit my trips to town for the 2 reasons of gas money and time. It’s good, though that our mailbox is a small walk down the gravel driveway. It gets me out. I’m far less likely to go for a walk in 10 degree weather “just because.”
Recently on a walk, I passed David’s “snow castle.”
I saw fresh tracks from Knut’s snow blower.
It’s a really big snow blower. With a cab. Yes, he’s spoiled.
I love our summer kitchen. It’s actually no longer a summer kitchen, but I suppose it was used as that when the house was first built. There’s evidence of that inside. Now it’s a shed with the kids’ toys and rakes and other gardening supplies. Sadly, like the snow blower, our lawn mower doesn’t fit in here. So it’s not like a “town” shed.
Then there’s the barn. Knut thinks that the white is pretty boring and told me the next time it needs painting, it’s going red. I jokingly asked him how many coats it would take! The kids claim we don’t live on a farm because this barn isn’t filled to the brim with animals. As much as I’d like to fill this barn with sheep so I could spend my days spinning wool, I’d hate to think of how much that would tie us down. When the kids are older maybe some 4-H animals will live here.
We’ve trained Lena to not go past that post, because we fear she’ll get run over by a car. It’s happened here before, though not to one of our dogs. She knows she can only accompany me past this point to the mailbox if I ask her to. Otherwise, she’ll either sit and wait, or pace back and forth until I come. She’s a pretty smart dog for the most part. She’d be even smarter if I worked with her. Lately Elias and Silje have been her trainers. We try to keep her inside more when semi-trucks are using our driveway around the clock during harvest time.
Now that you’ve seen the summer kitchen, the barn, this is actually the “shed.” At least I think that’s what it has been referred as. It’s falling apart a bit, but I still think it’s a beautiful structure. We have big plans for it this spring. Anyone care to guess (who doesn’t already know…) what special new project we will have undergoing in this pretty little shed in the shadow of these steel mountains of grain?

I agree…barns are supposed to be red. I started painting our last summer and finished three sides. I was surprised it went surprisingly fast and it took a 5 gallon bucket of paint to do three sides. Still have the old milk house and backside to paint but the horse, sheep and cows have that a little beat up so it needs work first.
