knitting

I recently had a birthday, and Knut’s mom got me some double pointed bone needles that were on my wish list.  These things are seriously beautiful.

So as I was stroking them this morning, as one would stroke yarn, (of course) I showed Silje my beautiful new needles.

Me: “Aren’t they just amazing?  They’re bone needles.”

Silje: “Mom, that’s sort of creepy.”

Me: “No it’s not!  It’s not like they’re human bones.  They’re animal bones.  They’re just beautifully carved!”

Silje: “They better not be from an endangered animal.”  [enter in all of the hatred of what the ivory industry did to elephants in Africa]

Me: “Oh no.  These are from water buffalo in India.  This is like not letting any of the animal go to waste, and using ever piece.  Like the Native Americans used to do.”

Silje: “Ok.  Then it’s okay.  I don’t think the Native Americans made knitting needles with their buffalo, though.”

Me: “That we know of…” 😉

Silje: “You’re weird, Mom.”

Me: “I know.”

Silje: “I like your needles.”

Me: “Thank you.  Me too.”

(Needles can be found at the Fringe Supply Co.  Really everything at that store is candy for a knitter.  This is not a sponsored post.)
