We saw our first robin in our yard yesterday.
Our new spring chicks arrive today.
Our cut firewood for this winter is gone. Knut has begun work on some more to tide us over, and for next year’s pile.
Our 9 adult hens have recently doubled their egg output. We have eggs everywhere again. The hens are able to roam around outside a bit again. Unfortunately, it appears that there was some bullying going on in the coop during the cold months. There’s a few naked necks out there, that I hope will regrow some feathers with some space.
I’ve been able to spend longer lengths of time outside going on walks and working with Missy. I’m just loving this air. I got some new mud boots.
It looks as though this big winter storm that was supposed to hit us today might have steered north. I’ve been so worried about driving through a blizzard to pick up our chicks that are due to arrive at the store between 11am-1pm.. We may still get some sleet. I may just send Knut. We’ll be watching the weather closely.
Ingrid was screaming last night around 1am. We could never figure out why. I nursed her, changed her diaper, gave her medicine for teeth. She still screamed. It took forever to get her back to sleep. In the end I was so frustrated I had to leave her there in the crib and walk away. I tagged Knut in, and he went to get her, and ended up getting her to sleep a few minutes later. Usually that plays out the other way around. It was one of those nights when I’m in awe of how single parents do it.
Also, I feel obligated to say every Monday morning how thankful I am for coffee.
I’m blessed.

April 1, 2014 at 8:10 pmGretchen,
Nice to meet you. I’m hopping over from Ann’s link up to count gifts with you.
Your chicken, kitchen, and approaching spring photos and peaceful prose felt like home to me, and drew me in. Thank you.
