Finding Beauty

Uncategorized

Knitting has been on the brain, probably too much as I’ve been anxiously waiting for one of my patterns to be published, and I’m working hard on a certain submission to another publication, while trying to work on my own collection.

Our schedule seems to be overpacked again.  It’s not really too bad, but I’m learning to say “no” more often.  My goal is that the little girls don’t miss more than 3 naps a week.  That’s not too much to ask, is it?  I find myself at a peak of disorganization, or maybe it’s that even though people say that life just gets faster the older you get I didn’t believe them.

I think it was Ann Voskamp that said something about the way to slow down life is to savor the moments, and give thanks.  That’s why I love taking pictures so much.  It’s a way to freeze that moment in time, and really give thanks for it.  Things that are stressful, like spilled pencil shavings all over the floor, can look gorgeous through a camera lens.

Knut wasn’t here this morning to make my coffee because he has a really big ski race.  I don’t make coffee.  I used to drink instant powdered coffee, actually.  Knut is the coffee snob.  As he freshly grinds the coffee beans using a ceramic grinder, and weighs the grounds on a digital scale before pouring water into the French press with a timer started…well I guess I’ve gotten used to the good stuff.  So I asked him to write out coffee making instructions for when he was at his race.  He thought his Aeropress contraption would be the easiest for me to handle.  Plus I rarely allow myself more than one cup a day.

As I was drinking the first cup of coffee that I’ve ever made and not spit out, Elias and Solveig begged me to come over and take a picture of their blocks creation.

They were so smily that I had to keep snapping pictures, and then I noticed Elias had his arms around Solveig, in a pose I haven’t been able to catch on camera yet.

He’s getting so tall.  I don’t know when that happened, but he just got tall all of a sudden.

Even though our home is messy right now, and there are piles of books in every nook that one of the kids left behind.  The sound of Legos being raked through with small fingers and screaming when block towers tumble, and little Ingrid toddling towards me every 3 minutes or so with her arms stretched out saying “mamamamamamamama” are these imperfect, and yet so very perfect moments that I’m just living.  Maybe I can slow them down for just today.

I love how the kids are so proud of their block creation! I remember the days when we simply had too much on the schedule and changes had to be made to restore order in the house again. Eventually you find a routine that works.
