It’s turning cold in a hurry. I’m not sure if we’re really prepared to settle in for the winter, but we’re getting there. Knut got the roses cut and covered, but we haven’t set up next year’s new vegetable gardens yet. I was supposed to have those marked up for compost. Maybe I’ll get to that today.
Around our house people are loosing their voices. We’re taking turns with laryngitis, and fortunately it’s been limited to that. No bad coughs, no fevers. Just dry throat. My voice was almost completely gone this morning, and surprisingly coffee didn’t help much, so I suppose I’ll be the silent one next. Unfortunately, my kids don’t seem overly upset about that.
Elias had his party with 3 of his cousins over. He’s getting so tall. He’s been asking to use tape pretty much 15 times a day for the last few weeks, and it was then when my mom asked what he wanted for his birthday. I told her, “Just get him some rolls of Scotch tape, and he’ll be a happy camper.” She laughed at that. When we got their package in the mail, among some Legos and other goodies, there were 2 large rolls of Scotch tape.
So pretty much everything in our house has tape on it right now, and Elias is pleased. Tape was a rope ladder, allowing his Lone Ranger Lego guys to climb from the floor to the top of the table. Tape also tied together some bad guy Legos, securing a bank. We’re thankful for that. Elias likes his tape.
I’m so thankful for so many things right now. I’m thankful for our land that produced so much goodness stored away for the winter. I’m so thankful to have Knut home in the evenings, to help put the kids to bed. I’m so thankful our dog Missy is feeling better and doesn’t have to be in forced rest anymore. I love looking outside and see her constantly surveying the horizon for any threat.
I’m so thankful for date nights, catching up, friendships with other moms that go so deep. You hear about these mommy-wars and how vicious we moms can be to each other. I found some friends who love deeply and give selflessly, and they are such a blessing to me.
I’m thankful for big dreams and baby giggles. I’m thankful for a knitting project that is finally beyond the first 2 inches, and the season where our fireplace is once again glowing around the clock.
How has God blessed you this last week?
