Yarn Along

Book Reviews, knitting

Things are moving along quickly in my fair isle scarf, which I’m keeping slightly ambiguous for now.  I’m really enjoying knitting this as I have my patterned memorized, and it’s fun to just speed through a scarf.

The kids and I are still going through the Harriet Tubman biography, Courage to Run.  I remember reading a biography on her when I was a kid, and barely able to put it down for 3 days.  It was one of those books that you curled up with and couldn’t do anything else until it was done, and I could give a big sigh of relief.  After 2 biographies in a row for the kids, I think we may pause and read some Narnia after this.  We’ve covered a biography from the holocaust, and now from the depths of slavery.  I think at least I’m in need of a little less real world, and a little more fantasy for our next read aloud, although the kids have really been on the edge of their seats with our reading of these biographies so I have no regrets.

It’s been awhile since we’ve read “The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe.”  I’m sure they’re ready for the next one.

Also, as a quick public service announcement for those of you who follow my knitting patterns, the blog at “In the Loop” yarn store in Plainville, MA is featuring my Clarity Cardigan today.  For today, and only today, my Clarity Cardigan design will be 50% off when you use the code found on their blog.  I was so excited to be asked to be a part of their “30 days of Indy” project where they feature a different independent knitting designer each day of November.

I’m linking up with Ginny today, in her weekly Yarn Along.  Knitting and reading are 2 of my favorite things, and I only wish I was able to do them at the same time.

Wow! Wow! Wow! That is awesome that your designs continue to be picked up by other blogs. Congrats!
Also, someday, it would be fun for your kids to read (or be read) the Louis L’Amour book about the two kids lost in the wilderness. (I forgot the name, but I still have the book.)

I love your Clarity Cardigan pattern. I’ve been drooling over it for so long now. I have promised to make one as soon as I find the right yarn.

Excited to check out the links to your pattern! Your scarf is gorgeous too, as always.

Whew, those are two heavy topics right in a row for your read alouds. I vote fantasy escape for the next one too! Ha! I am deliberating over my next read aloud with my oldest daughter and struck on The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, one of my favorites. We just moved into chapter books for read alouds as special time and I am having fun with the possibilities!

    Beautiful knitting.

We read the same book about Harriet Tubman a few years ago.
We have a bridge near us named for Harriet, she escaped across the river the runs behind my property, such a sad time in our history.

That is awesome that they are promoting your pattern. I had no idea that yarn shop existed. My best friend lives over there. Will have to check out In The Loop next time I’m out that way.

Lovely design! I think it is great that you have your children reading biographies so they can learn about history.

Interestingly enough, the Narnia books always seem to help me make sense of the real world. I appreciate that about CS Lewis. He doesn’t dumb down saddness or loss or any number of those things in the books but at the same time he deals with them in a grace-filled way that leaves you comforted.
