One of the great things about Ravelry is the networking that can happen and the friendships that can be built. I’ve gotten to know a few designers, but Alicia Plummer and Melissa Schaschwary have been extra kind to me, and I love emailing them back and forth and sharing common interests of designing knitting patterns, motherhood, homeschooling, and a common faith. They have become such a blessing to me.
Anyway, they were going through my old projects, and I got emails from both of them saying, “Um, why did you give up on this design? It’s lovely! Try again!” I explained that I had knitted the Tsu Sweater 3 times total, and I could never fix the fitting problems of the neckline. “Try Again” was my reply.
So I thought about it. I rethought the neckline over and over again. Since I used the previous yarn for another project, I had to order new yarn, and since I had knit up that yarn multiple times, I was eager for a new color. I really wanted Quince and Co. in peacock, but it was out of stock. So I sulked, and studied a few more stitch patterns to try to solve the neckline issues, and worked on other projects.
When it finally came time to order up the yarn for this project, “peacock” was back in stock, and it was almost like a sign. This time it was going to work. This time it is going to be perfect.
So I’m almost done with the neckline, and I think it’s working. I’m transitioning to the lace pattern now, and I’m growing excited. This is going to be lovely.
As for reading, I am continuing One Thousand Gifts which is written as metaphor thick as poetry, and is a very reflective, thoughtful read. I had anticipated it to be a quick read, and it simply is not. I absolutely love it. Many books are enjoyable, but some change you. This one is changing me, and I don’t think I have been impacted like this by a book since I read What’s So Amazing About Grace?
So I’m in no rush, but try to wade through the thick language and let it soak in.
Linking up with Ginny, because knitting and reading is so much fun.

April 17, 2013 at 7:23 pmJust discovered your blog through the Yarn Along on Small Things and have been enthralled all morning. I recently moved from Minnesota, where my husband and I spent a few years living in his small hometown. After three winters there, I’m impressed by anyone who can find blessings during an April blizzard. I wish I met people like you when we were there! I hope Spring reaches you soon! Off to purchase a Little Pearl Vest pattern…
