New Baby Knits

Uncategorized

I’ve been combing through Ravelry patterns to figure out what I want to knit for this new baby boy.  As my 3rd boy, there aren’t any huge needs for this baby, besides the fact that I’ve never had a boy in the summer before, so my seasonal clothing is going to be off a bit.  I’m not sure if newborns need knits in the summer.  I’ve been mulling over this thought a bit.  Light, fingering weight, perhaps.  We do tend to have cool summers here, but he will be born in the hottest part.  So I’m focusing on autumn clothes, for this little one for now, as I’m all set besides that.  And the summer season lasts around a month around here, so if he isn’t born in the cool weather, we won’t have to wait long for it to come.

I’m being a really “naughty” expectant mother, though, and casting on a project that has been inspiring me more for months…and is for myself.  I’ll do this one first.  If there’s one thing experience has taught me, it’s to be gentle with myself after a baby is born.  I’ve learned to prepare a “care package” of sorts for myself for after birth.  Something for me to reach for when I’m sleep deprived, hormonally overwhelmed, and at my breaking point.  A sane mother is the biggest gift I can give this little one.  So I’m going to try to get this sweater finished up for my own little care package this Fall when nothing fits me and I’m crying because I don’t know what to wear.  I’ll wear this:

I’m knitting up the Pomme de Pin Cardigan in Madelinetosh’s Pashmina in the color way “Norway Spruce.” (The yarn is shown in the first picture.)  This yarn has been on my “bucket list” of must try yarns for years.  It’s too luxurious to be my everyday yarn.  It’s a special treat.  It certainly inspires.  The Catboat cardigan I’ve been working on is leaving me in a funk and must be put on the back burner before I loose my knitting mojo altogether.

I’ve also been wanting to knit a Latte Baby Coat for ages.  This will be his winter coat.  I’m thinking of going with Quince and Co. Osprey for this project, though I haven’t picked a color yet.

He will need a hat or five for winter.  So far I’m liking the Garter Ear Flap hat by Purl Soho, or the Earflap Hat by Jane Richmond for fall/winter.  I’m sure I have some fun stash yarn for one of these.  I may play around with some stranded nordic design on a different simple pattern too with no earflaps.

He will need some booties, for sure.  But I’ve had my eyes on Roo in Winter  by Melissa Schashwary for ages, as I think it will be super for use with my Ergo carrier (or any carrier) once the weather turns cold.  It’s one of the most clever designs for baby, and so essential.

I’m also tempted by Ysolda Teague’s baby patterns.  Two in particular: Wee Envelope, and Elijah, (which isn’t clothing, or necessary)…but it’s just so cute.  The Wee Envelope in particular looks like one of the smartest baby designs for a pullover, which is to be expected from Ysolda.Screen Shot 2016-04-05 at 10.11.40 AM copy Screen Shot 2016-04-05 at 10.12.53 AM copy

Also, he may be wearing the McDreamy Jumper for Christmas this year, but that’s just pure speculation.  (He’ll totally get that for Christmas.)

The wonderful thing about baby knits is they can be finished in a day or two of passion.  Booties and mittens are just an evening in front of the television with my husband.

But until I decide on yarn choices, and do some more digging in my stash, I guess it will be the cozy, lacy cardigan for myself.

Jumped to your beautiful blog from Ginny today- I am way past babies and not yet ready for grands but I have gifted and received many compliments on the Latte Baby sweaters that I have knit. I have done them both with and without the hood and highly recommend the hood! Eco and Eco+ are beautiful on this little jacket! Best of luck in getting some knitting for yourself done- I am off to check out that sweater on Ravelry!
