I was very excited to get my next box in the mail this morning. For those who have read along with my Stitch Fix experiences, you’ll remember that I didn’t keep anything in box #3. Everything was sent back. So I was really hoping this one wouldn’t be so disappointing. I had asked for more cozy, cables, layers, and specifically a denim jacket or vest just for layering.
For those wanting to try out Stitch Fix, you can click here.
The first thing I pulled out of the box this time was:
Formosa Henley Blouse, $64.
This was a really nice shape for a boxy blouse, but I wasn’t totally excited about the pattern. It is different than most things I have, and a great color. I just didn’t love it. It came with a little black cami to go underneath the blouse as it’s sheer. I don’t have much shape to begin with, so I’m thinking these boxy blouses that are really in style are just not a good fit for my body type, though this is one of the nicest ones I have tried on.
Status: sent back.
Giovanni Straight Leg Jean, $98.
When I saw more jeans on the package list, I was a little disappointed. They sent me jeans before and I just don’t need anymore. Well, that’s not totally true. I own 3 pairs of jeans. 1 pair of work jeans, 1 pair of flare jeans, and 1 pair of skinny jeans. I’m a pretty simple gal. However, when I saw that they sent me forest green jeans, I really liked them! They would really go with several of my tops, and not be to flashy and bright, but just add a little extra interest and give me the illusion of “trying” to look nice, or going the extra mile when I wore them. How green jeans give me that feeling, I’ll never understand.
2 issues, though. First, when I tried them on they fit more like leggings than jeans. They were very tight around the thighs and butt, but loose enough around the waist that I wouldn’t want to go up another size. Plus, once again it was near the top of my budget. I’m not thrilled about spending $98 on jeans.
Status: sent back (But now I’m on the lookout for colored jeans, because I think I could actually pull off that look. The idea never entered my brain before, but I really liked the look.)
Trenton Jacket, $98.
So this is the jacket I requested for layering. I mentioned that all the ones I have found locally at stores had holes in them and I still can’t bring myself to buy clothing with holes in them already. This was a very good fit. It was perfect in fact. The fabric was lighter than most denims, less stiff and more stretchy. It was incredibly comfortable. I would not have ever picked the acid wash, though, and I recently saw another jean jacket that I really liked online at Ann Taylor that was 40% off of $70, and it was the exact wash I was thinking.
Status: sent back.
Lawley Cable Knit Open Cardigan, $68.
I’m sorry for the bad lighting in my bathroom for these pictures. You guys are troopers for hanging in there with me for these. Anyone who knows me knows I’m a sucker for a good cardigan. This one has a pretty all over texture, and some deep pockets that are actually usable. They aren’t flimsy or anything. It goes long, just below the butt really. I don’t have a cardigan in gray. Well, not a thick cozy one like this. I have an airy, lacy gray cardigan for summer.
I would wear this all the time, most especially around the house. I got rid of any sweaters that were falling apart during my big purge, and it left me with one cream sweater that is cozy and I love and wear often. But it shows a lot of dirt for the amount that I wear it. This one wouldn’t show dirt as much, and still has that cozy feel. It’s practical, wearable, and pretty. I nervously got rid of a sweater during my purge that was comfortable and I wore, but was terribly ugly. I wondered what I would wear if not that during the chilly months of our house. This sweater meets all the qualifications to replace the sweater I tossed. Though I’m not sure how the pockets are as far as pretty. I’ve seen pockets in a sweater done better than this on Ravelry, and I suppose that’s just the knitting designer critique in me. Could I make this sweater? Yes. Do I have time? No. Would it be any cheaper if I made it? The opposite actually. I would make it out of Madelinetosh Vintage or something. According to my queue on Ravelry I could make a sweater like this in 2025 or something.
Status: kept.
Jacoba Statement Drop Earrings, $28.
I got a fun pair of earrings in this month’s box. They are cute and match 99% of what is in my wardrobe. I don’t wear earrings a lot, but I really do like wearing them for weddings and date nights. I cannot pull off really big earrings as they really bother me, but I think I could pull off these.
Status: kept.
I feel like I’m shopped out. I really am enjoying my small wardrobe, that I actually get nervous about adding anything to it at all anymore because I don’t want to ruin the simplicity of it. I don’t want to go back to looking in my closet and wondering what to wear. That fact that I love that everything in it is something that I love. So it will likely be awhile before another box comes my way. I’m set.

September 30, 2015 at 3:28 amI like your thought process in choosing what you like and what you don’t. I like the Henley top in the picture, but what matters is what you feel comfortable with. It’s hard when I don’t see it in real life. Anyway, I’m glad you chose the cardigan! I have an addiction to them as well!

September 30, 2015 at 6:02 pmVictory! I’ve thought a lot about this, but I am hung up on the fact that so many things that I love are so weird, statement pieces in an of themselves… so hard to pare down. SO glad you kept that cardigan. It is a gem!
