I’m Blessed

Blessings

It’s crazy cold out today.  Knut was supposed to be back at work, but not all the guys wanted to drive in these dangerous temps, so they’re doing some meeting over the phone instead.  You know it’s cold if…

We’re starting back to school today.  It’s so necessary to get some routine back in our days.  The kids have been complaining about the idea, but this morning they woke up excited, and ready to go.  That warmed my heart.

The amaryllis bulb that we started on the first of Advent is now ready to bloom.  We’ve been watching it change daily, and I’m so excited about the grand finale before us.  I’ll share pictures when we’re there.

The days are already starting to get full after break.  I look ahead in this week and see my best friend is going on a big trip to Africa, and I’m going to do my best to send her off.  I have an eye doctor appointment, piano lessons, and Silje’s choir starts back up, and we’re starting David in Tae Kwon Do for the first time, which will be twice a week.  My “down time” with my babysitter this week will consist of getting a new prescription for my contacts, instead of working on knitting patterns.  So Knut’s going to try to find a pocket of time to watch the kids and send me off to the library to finally get things done.

We just bought 7 plane tickets to go visit my family down in Arizona and California in March.  We skipped our yearly drive down there last year, because driving with 5 kids, 3 of whom get terribly, disgustingly carsick just became too much for us.  This year we bought the bullet and are flying.  I am looking forward to getting our usual 30 hour drive done in a 3 hour flight, but I’m a little nervous about flying with 5 kids in tow.  I’m just excited to see my family again, most especially my nieces and nephew who have gotten so big in the last 2 years, and my grandparents, especially my grandpa whose memory continues to fade.  We likely won’t be able to afford this every year, but I miss them so bad, that we’re making it work, and praying no emergencies come our way.  Grown up decisions are so hard.

I have some very heavy things on my mind these last few weeks, that I’ve been talking over with God.  I’m not ready to share about them yet, and likely won’t in any near future.  I’m thankful that God is strong enough to take my real questions.  He doesn’t mind some wrestling.  It doesn’t scare him.  Through it all, He has given me so much peace.  I’m glad that my retreat is just over 2 weeks away.  I’m so looking forward to some time by myself to reflect and prepare for this next year of being a mom.

I’m blessed.

Oh Gretchen…no, He doesn’t. He wants our strong questions! He wants it all…the good and the bad. Praying that calmness will begin to grow in your heart as the week progresses. Be blessed! mari

Yes, God can handle all of our questions and He is merciful and loving… will pray for you about this today. We are preparing for (Russian) Christmas (in two days now!)… for you it is the feast of Epiphany tomorrow … my now in heaven Grandpa John was born on this day. Stay warm and blessed travels when they come; may your Angels go with you, as is said to travelers! 🙂
