In a Matter of Days

Uncategorized

In a matter of days, since we have started school, my house has gotten messy.  All of a sudden, there are dishes in the sink, the dining room table has books and papers stacked on it.  Laundry is getting piled up on top of teachers manuals, and papers to be graded are mixed in with knitting swatches and sketches for project ideas on coffee tables.
At first, I felt like all was falling apart.
Then I realized, it was just that the signs of life are returning to this house.
There are dishes because I’ve started cooking some again.  I made granola last night, and Silje made cookies yesterday afternoon.
There is laundry because there’s a baby spitting up on things…meaning she’s getting fed.
There is schoolwork everywhere, because school is getting done.
There are diapers to be folded because I’ve finally gotten my baby into cloth and out of ‘sposies.  (Well, during the day at least.)
Books are left on the couch because someone was reading.
There is mess, because things are getting done.  Well, not “done” in the sense of “finished.”  More in the sense of “stuff is going on.”  Really, it’s a lot of things not finished.  There’s a lot of things going on.
There’s life.
So I will look around at my messy house, and feel very accomplished.
My outlook is my choice, and today I choose to feel accomplished.  So much is getting done, and I have the house to prove it.

Awesome perspective. I so needed to read this right now (as I too have laundry piled up to fold and dishes in the sink.)

It even happens in houses where there are no children. The busyness of life takes over and it’s hard to keep up. You are not alone in your perspective. Great post.

I love your perspective. I had one of those days. But in the end, quality time was spent with the kids, dinner was made (not purchased or thawed) and clothes were washed. I needed that post!
