This week I’ve been doing some odds and ends project. I finally seamed together the French Press Slippers, felted them, and sewed on the buttons. They are comfy, I’ll give them that. I do think that the hopsalot slippers that I did last year were more comfortable, and there was less seaming to that pattern. (Well, I intended on putting on the bunny face, but once I tried them on, I couldn’t take them off because they were the most comfortable slippers I had ever owned, so they ended up just being plain brown slippers.) So I’m thinking the next time I do felted slippers, I’ll use the hopsalot for the main slipper, and do the buttons like the French Press ones. I decided not to put leather on the bottom like I was planning. I think I’ll save my leather straps for the next pair. Although I like them, I’m not anxious for them to last forever. And I’m just lazy.
I do like them. When they get holes, these buttons will most definitely be used again. They’ll do as my new pair of “work shoes” around the house.
I’ve also been plugging away at the new baby’s Small Things Romper. I think I may have made some mistake, or read the pattern wrong, because the short rows in the back aren’t centered. It doesn’t bother me enough to rip them out, as I’ll be the only one to notice them. I’m loving the color of this yarn more and more! I’m nearly done with one leg now, and then all I’ll have left is the other leg, and the 2 arms. I still need to figure out what to do with buttons for this one. I’m planning on doing a matching pixie bonnet with it like I did with Solveig’s. I also feel the need to make some worsted weight baby booties to coordinate. I’m not sure I’ll have enough of this yarn left for it, so I’ll have to see when I get there. Otherwise it may just be some leftover yarns I have laying around here. I’ve still not decided if I should pick out a ready made pattern, or put my own together just because.
It feels soooo good to be making something for this baby. I have done so little to prepare for this little one. It still seems so far off, and this project has been a good mental preparation for me. Because of where the placenta for this baby is, I don’t feel her move as much as the other kids. I still feel her quite often, but she has to kick through her placenta to get to my hand, and it’s just not as noticeable. Plus, I’m so busy with the kids outside my womb, I just don’t have time to sit and dwell on her impending arrival.
This project however, has spurred me into a fit of nesting elsewhere. I’ve cleaned and cooked so much more! I’m starting to go through baby things and making lists of things that will need to be replaced, and things I might pick up just for her. The baby crafting bug has bitten me, and that’s happy. 🙂
I am doing some knitting mourning at the same time. I finished my Tsu Sweater design last week and drumroll…I hate it. The shoulders don’t fit properly and it hangs all wrong. There are saggy parts that shouldn’t be saggy and tight parts that shouldn’t be tight. I have re-knit this sweater now TWO TIMES and I’m so frustrated with it. I told Knut that’s my limit. That’s it. I’m done. This yarn will be reused to make something completely different because it is still lovely. I’m scrapping the pattern, though. I know that even though I may hate how it turned out, other people may not. I cannot in good conscience, though, release such an ill-fitting pattern. It has been a huge blow to my ego. I hate even looking at it. It just makes me angry that I lost so much time, and I had so carefully done the math and writing…it should have worked.
I learned a lot, though, so it’s not all a loss. I wish I hadn’t learned some lessons this way, though! It just goes to show you that things may look great on paper, but how it knits up is much more unpredictable. Still, it’s a lot of work, and I won’t rip it out until my mourning is complete. I’m still secretly hoping that some brilliant idea on how to fix it will come to me, and I’ll be able to salvage this design. Until I let go of that possibility, the yarn may keep it’s life as this sweater.
And for reading, I hate to sound redundant, but I’ve just been going through The Jesus Storybook Bible for the enjoyment, and in preparation for Sunday School starting next week and getting the curriculum ready for my students. It’s been so good that it’s worth another mention.
I’m linking up with Ginny’s Yarn Along. It’s a fun Wednesday gathering place where people share what they are knitting and reading that week!

September 12, 2012 at 3:33 pmI love the sweater, too, but I’ve discovered that wide necklines like that look much better on broad-shouldered people. For those of us with narrower shoulders, it just hangs wrong. Great job on the slippers. You will be stylin’ in your new “work” shoes!

September 12, 2012 at 4:26 pmOh I love the slippers! And is that a small things romper? I love that one…I might cave and make it for our next “someday” baby. 😉 I’m so sorry your sweater didn’t turn out like you wanted…that’s such a bummer! I found you through the link up, I’m sharing toddler leg warmers and my mama scarf this week. Happy knitting!

September 12, 2012 at 8:21 pmThe slippers turned out great and I also like the sweater. I know how it is though when you picture it turning it out a certain way, and then it doesn’t.

September 13, 2012 at 12:14 amSo I came over from Small Things and I adore your slippers. However, the thing that struck me upon coming to your website is how much your oldest son looks like my son. They could be twins. (fraternal at least) I looked around for a picture of him with a similar face and I can’t find one right away. I’ll keep looking.

September 13, 2012 at 2:21 amYour slippers are just adorable! I think the sweater looks beautiful, but I know what you mean though. If it does not meet your personal standards then you might as well frog it because, if you are like me, you will never wear it! 🙂
