I’m linking up with Ginny again for the Yarn Along. Good times.
The “Dirk” sweater is coming along, although I made a mistake with the sleeve so I’m going to have to rip most of that back. The length is just perfect on Elias, with a bit of growing room. He liked it much better for the last fitting, although I didn’t take pictures of it that time.
I’m hoping to have the pattern ready for testers by September 1st. (I hope!) I’ll need testers for 2T-size 10 for boys. If anyone wants to help me test the pattern out, send me an email at garonnevik at gmail dot com. I’m not guaranteeing a testing spot for everyone, but if you’re interested, send me your contact info. If you have a Ravelry account would be a plus. I may ask for testers on Ravelry too, but I haven’t figured out how to do that yet. I’m trying to keep first things first and actually finish making/writing the pattern.
I may be testing right along with everyone, as David wants one too, except he wants dark orange sleeves and a light blue body. I think it will look kind of cool!
I’m reading another one of Silje’s readers for the upcoming school year. I’ve given up thinking that I’ll get them all done before school so after I got the first months or so done, I’m just picking the ones that look like a fun read. It’s called Along Came a Dog and it’s by the same author as The Wheel on the School
that was a read aloud last year. (It was quite a favorite last year, too!) I have to say, I like this one even more than the other. In fact, this may be one of my favorite children’s books, or at least making my top 5 list. It’s wonderful. 5 stars. 2 thumbs up.
It could be because it’s about a sweet black dog and chickens…but I wouldn’t know anything about that.
The author clearly spent some wonderful time observing a flock, and is a dog lover as well. I was delighted to see that the character in the book does the same kind of free-range style chicken keeping as we do. Interestingly enough, there are no children in this children’s book…at least thus far. On a related note, I think most adults would enjoy it just as much as a child. It is incredibly sweet, and I can’t wait to read each chapter. This will be one that Silje will read 5 times through before picking up another book.
I guarantee it.

August 10, 2011 at 6:38 amOh my—reading your posts made me nostalgic for the days I homeschooled my own children. Those years flew by so fast, and were ended much earlier than I wanted due to the need of me going back to work. We wish we could move out of this high cost of living state! Your life sounds lovely!
If I had a few more years of knitting experience under my belt I would beg to be a tester for you, but I am too afraid of the responsibility!

August 10, 2011 at 12:29 pmThe colors of the sweater remind me of dark chocolate and milk chocolate. Are both from knitpicks? And the book – I’ll have to look for that one. I read aloud the Wheel on the School to my children – it’s a wonderful story.

August 10, 2011 at 1:13 pmI’d love to be a tester…I have a 3 year old boy, but I’m also a new knitter so I’m not sure if it’s for a beginner or not? Maybe I’ll drop you an e-mail!

August 10, 2011 at 6:42 pmThat is a beautiful sweater. What perfect stitches. I’ll have to add that book to our read aloud list. We are reading “Little House on the Prairie”.

August 11, 2011 at 3:34 pmI might be too inexperienced as a knitter to help you out but if you are looking for people to help on Ravelry, I believe there is a free pattern tester group on there. You could put a call out to them when you’re ready
