I don’t seem to remember the other kids crawling at 7 months so I looked up in my notes and sure enough: Silje crawled at 9 months, David crawled at 8 months, and Elias crawled at 9 months. Solveig has them all beat.
I’m not sure why, but she always heads straight for the back hallway stairs to the basement. She only pauses at the shoe closet to investigate all the gross farm shoes.
I keep thinking to myself that this is all happening so fast and she wasn’t supposed to be crawling yet!
She’s saying “Mom-Mom” now all the time to me. All 3 of the others said “Da-Da” first. She’s my first to have my name be her first word.
None of my babies have been especially clingy, but with the upset schedule of the last few weeks, she’s become a bit clingy. I’m hoping that with the return of normalcy, she’ll go back to her normal self.
Like Elias, she smiles for the camera on cue now. Sadly, she sees it that much. I’m surprised she doesn’t call it: “Mom-Mom.”
When my parents were here she’d get up at night and end up in our bed starting anywhere from 1:30-4:30 am. She very quickly went back to sleeping in her own bed (the pack n play) until 6am without any fuss. I’m thinking of transitioning Elias to a “big boy bed” soon so that Solveig can soon enjoy the comfort of a real crib. Soon…soon.
Speaking of Elias, I need to potty train him. That was my goal for the summer and summer is almost over. I have not been on top of it and he has yet to go potty in the potty chair once. Not that we haven’t tried. I’m doubting his readiness, but on the other hand, when the boy can explain to me that his diaper is wet, go get me a diaper, lay down and hand me the wipes, he’s probably ready. Ugh. I waited to potty train David until he was 3, and he did it in about a week. I started potty training Silje at 18 months and it took her 9 months before she “got it.” I like the 1 week system better, personally. I guess that’s the lazy in me.
Speaking of lazy, I guess my laziness in feeding Solveig has had the effect predicted. My doctor was right in that if I didn’t start Solveig on baby food soon she would reject food. (Sorry…I’m still laughing over this.) Despite my best efforts to give her baby food she has no interest still. So I threw up my hands and said “if you don’t want it, you don’t need it!” She’s not the first kid of mine to turn her face up at any kind of baby food…homemade or not. I should probably clarify that while she has rejected baby food, she’s a big fan of real food from the plate. 😉 She loves tiny smushed pieces of food of whatever we are eating and loves to chomp on Cheerios, although she’s not very proficient at it yet.
It doesn’t fill her stomach the way baby food does, as she doesn’t eat nearly as much food to equal 1 jar. As I reassure my doctor…she’s not quite 8 months old. She’ll make it and she gets milk from me whenever she wants it. After all…no one believes she’s starving.

August 7, 2011 at 1:32 amLOL… doctors… what do they know? My daughter doesn’t have any trouble eating the baby food that I make, but I’ve gotten plenty of advice from Amelia’s pedi that is a bunch of bologna. Your daughter looks beautiful and healthy to me! 🙂

Look at this way – if she just eats “real food” that’s one less transition you have to make later!
