When You Just Need Someone to Notice

devotions, Gospel Mentoring, mentoring

I’m so grateful for my church family.  When I look back to the times in my life when I was hurting at my deepest, I can name someone at church who answered the call, or said the right words.

When God designed the church, I think it’s because it’s not good for us to be alone.  It’s not good for us to be alone.  Not only does that make us prone to spiritual attack, but we as humans have chronic amnesia.  We keep forgetting what God has done.  We keep forgetting the truth.  We need it spoken to us often.  We need someone consistently pointing us to the cross.

We are all a bunch of teenagers, who have been enjoying a vacation with friends, and sit around and read all day, and been given gifts upon gifts, and then cries out to God “No one cares about me!  You never do anything for me!”

I have no idea where I got that illustration.  Ahem.

I think more than anything, we need each other to point each other to truth when our feelings betray us.

I know for me, I hesitated to help someone hurting because I didn’t know what to say.  I was afraid I was going to say the wrong thing, and heaven forbid, make things worse.

Am I supposed to share a Bible verse?

Am I supposed to say it’s going to be alright?  I don’t know that.

Should I just sit and be present with someone hurting?

I don’t know the solution to what she is walking through.

God in his wisdom, designed an intergenerational system of encouragement, for the purpose of making sure we don’t forget the sound doctrine of his grace.  So we don’t get stuck in the cycle of believing that our religion has anything to do with our works.

It has everything to do with HIS works.

I wish I could sit down with each and every one of you have have a long, deep conversation.  The honor of having your attention and friendship in this loud, messy online world is not lost on me.

That’s why I want to invite you to my FREE webinar.  I want to talk about this.  I want to talk about encouraging one another with truth.  I want to talk about having relationships in the church that matter, and aren’t fluffy.  I want to alleviate your fears, and pump you up before the chaos of fall activities hit.

The event will be LIVE Tuesday night at 7pm CST.  If you can’t make it, still register, and you’ll get the replay sent to you the next morning.  We won’t be able to participate live, but you can pretend, and send me emails with your questions instead.

You can register for this event HERE.

If you’ve already signed up, could you do me a favor?  Invite a friend or two.  I would love to connect with you, but I have even a bigger vision for this.  I want to create a movement.  I don’t want to see a single one of us drown silently within the church.  There is no reason for that.

It’s not about being a better Christian.  It’s not about 10 steps to a happy life.  It’s about the law and the gospel, and what they mean for every part of our lives.

Please join me.
