Catching Up! Again!

house stuff

I haven’t been gone. I haven’t been terribly busy either. Really, I don’t have any good excuse for not blogging. I can’t believe I even missed the “Not Me Monday” post. On Monday, a local church around here lets community moms to drop off their kids for 2 and a half hours, and we get to go do whatever we want. I got my hair cut (for the first time since Elias was in the NICU. How sad is that!) and then I went to an antique store that I’ve been dying to walk through. Walking through antique stores with 3 small children isn’t so…how should I put it…productive?

I got a dresser for the boys’ room. I’ve been looking for a dresser ever since before Elias was born, and I finally found one with the right price, and the right sturdiness. I also knew I wanted it tall, so it could eventually go in the corner of their room and not obstruct the window, and I knew I wanted a big one so I had too much rather than too little storage space. Right now you can see it next to the crib to see how tall it is. I’m so happy with it. Well, I will be happy when I get around to reorganizing the clothes in their room so it’s in use. Until then there is just stuff everywhere in there!

The guy at the antique store was pulling off all the things they were displaying on top of it, so we could load it in the van, and he found a crack on the top part of the dresser. So he gave me even more of a discount, which made the find a little bittersweet. Bitter because I initially thought it was in perfect condition, and sweet because I got it much cheaper than I would have imagined. The top is veneered, so I could either redo the veneer, or cover the top of the dresser with a nice cloth or something, but for now, the crack is exposed for all the world to see. But other than that, it is in perfect, solid condition.

I also picked up this reading chair for Silje’s room. I wasn’t on the market for one just yet, but it was so inexpensive, and the chair she was using in this spot was so wobbly and rickety, that now she’s living in the lap of luxury in this comfy chair. She has already read several short books in it. Knut just rolled his eyes as soon as he saw it and said “That’s the girliest chair I have ever seen.” I said that was perfect, since he has the girliest daughter I have ever seen.

The fabric, is a beautiful multi-colored toile that has imaginative scenes with bridges and trees. The perfect chair to sit and let your mind take you somewhere completely different.

They’re still not in the field yet, but Knut and his dad have been keeping busy replacing the kitchen window that should have been done a year ago. The new one is set in and secured and insulated. Now Knut just has to reattach the old molding, and stain the new wood, etc. We can already tell a huge difference in our kitchen as to it’s draftiness. Hurray for a cozy winter ahead of us!
