Second Box

stitch fix

So I shared with you all my first experience with Stitch Fix not that long ago, and I really was surprised at the response from all of you.  I got way more referrals than I would have imagined, and so many notes from friends.  I was relieved that I wasn’t the only one more than anything!

So I mentioned that I didn’t like the shirts in my last box, and sent for another box right away.  That arrived late last week, and I thought I’d share what I got and what was kept in this box.

Rosco Floral Print Crochet Detail Tank $58.

IMG_3005

It had me at crochet.  This tank is very lightweight, and I will have to wear a little nude colored cami underneath it (though Knut said I should try a navy cami or something instead for a pop of color.)  I know, I know I said I wanted a shirt that I didn’t have to wear a cami underneath.  I’m totally making an exception for this one because I’m ridiculously in love with it.  Look at the back:

IMG_3007Don’t mind my crazy sunburns and stripes on the back.  I didn’t bring out my gardening hat yet, and that was a mistake.  I just love how fun and different this top is from everything else I own.  I love it so much. I ordered a new cross back for underneath, as I’m noticing in stores that this really is the style these days, and as Knut says, I look muscular in this style.  So I’ll take it.

This top is going to layer beautifully.  I can wear fun necklaces, or whatever.

Knut says he still likes the yellow and grey one I sent back last time better.  He just won’t drop it.  But like he said, I’m the one who has to wear them.

Status: kept.

Maddie Straight Leg Jean $78.

OK, so good and bad.  Good: they fit me like a glove.  Best jeans ever.  Bad: I don’t need new jeans right now.  I’m really loving this minimalist wardrobe, and it would be redundant to get these.  So I wrote to the stylist that I loved them but don’t need them now.  In the future if I need jeans, I’ll let her know, and have her just throw them in the next box.

Status: sent back.

Heflin Knit Tank $38.

IMG_3011This top is so…festive.  Things I like?  I love the higher neckline.  I have kids pulling my shirt all the time and high necklines are valued by any mom of littles.  I love the length, the feel of the fabric, and the fit.  It’s wonderfully comfortable. I like stripes.  I like embroidery.  I just don’t like this.  I love red.  I love white.  I love blue.  I feel like an American flag.  I don’t like the motif down the middle.

Status: sent back.

Martina Slub Knit Open Cardigan $48.

So when my stylist sent me an email right before she was shopping for my box, wondering if I had any last minute thoughts, I said “I’m going to confide I have a soft spot for cardigans.  You can throw in a nice summer one, and I sure wouldn’t complain.”  In the back of my mind I was thinking I needed to replace my current white cardigan because it was short sleeved and trim, and I wanted something cozier.  It was just a fluke, though, that she sent me a white one.  She must have been reading my mind.

Now, I know I knit my own sweaters most of the time.  To be honest, most of my sweaters that I design are worn for special occasions only, and kept in fine condition for display as samples.  Some are over worn, but I try to keep them nice as yarn stores do ask them out on loan.  My hands don’t let me knit with cotton, and I can’t afford silk right now, and I do want to try linen yarn sometime.  All that to say, I really could use a lightweight multi-purpose cardigan.  Just a plain wardrobe staple.

I could not have dreamed of a better one.  The fabric is like a soft t-shirt, and cozy without being hot.  The front bands turn to pockets at the bottom.  It gives me all sorts of happy feelings, and I’m keeping it. I think it’s a great wardrobe staple to have.

Status: kept.

Nikky Striped Faux Wrap Jersey Dress $58.

I asked the stylist to send me a casual skirt to try out.  She sent me this, saying she’ll keep her eye out for a skirt, as she didn’t find one a good length for me yet, but she wanted me to try this on in the meantime.

Knut agreed with me that there couldn’t be a more perfect dress for me.  My usual problem with wrap dresses is they go too low in the front for me and my short torso.  This one is comfortable in front, and I don’t even need to adjust it constantly.  The sleeves are just the perfect length, and so is the skirt.  It’s not too short that I’m self conscious, and not too long to feel formal at all.  It’s more comfortable than yoga pants.  It was the most spot on fit of a dress I ever had.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE the color.  The style sheet that they sent said I should pair it with a navy cardigan.  I really wish I had a navy cardigan now, because the picture looked cute.  (Me and cardigans.  Sigh.  Knut’s right.  I am hopeless.) He firmly insisted I keep this one, which I was on the fence about because while I could honestly use another dress, I didn’t need another dress.  The 4 plus 1 formal is fine.  I can manage with what I have.  It’s just we were both certain this will get a ton of wear.

Actually, if I had to get rid of some of my other dresses to keep this one, I would in a heartbeat.

Status: kept.

This box was harder than the other one because I just loved so much I wasn’t sure what to discard.  I really felt that they shopped with every word I said taken into account.  Thank you to everyone who used my referral link.  That made the cost of the purchases much easier to swallow.  Like, you guys are paying for about half of this bill.  I feel like I’m set for clothes now for the summer, so I won’t ask for another fix until this Fall when I bring out my cold weather clothes and see what’s left after my big purge, and what holes might need filling.  As for now?  No more clothes for me.  I’m determined to keep my closet under control from now on.  OK, unless I happen upon a cheap navy cardigan when I’m out and about.  But only then.

If you want to check out Stitch Fix for yourself, you can find it here.  (Hey…I’ll need the referral money for my Fall fix so I’m going to keep adding the link.  Because if each box gets better and more right on like this, I’m going to be in trouble.)

Love your selections this time around! I just got another fix this week, also, and kept everything. I’m getting the same stylist now, and that is helping, I think. Since I’m rebuilding my wardrobe, I’ve scheduled myself for an automatic every other month fix for a while. I agree with comments from before that it’s important to think about clothing in terms of “cost per wearing.” Makes paying higher prices for basics easier to swallow.

I’ve thought about going automatic too. Not a bad idea! A little dangerous too. 😉

Those are great!! Love that first top – you might be able to get away with not having those cami straps showing if you wear a strapless or bandeau underneath… I love my strapless and bandeau styles as they mean I can wear whatever style top I want!!

I have a strapless but I hate it. I ordered a new one, and it should be in soon. Can’t wait to wear this!!

You really can’t go wrong with aqua. I’m so in love with that color right now.

I too was on the hunt for an inexpensive lightweight navy blue cardigan this spring. I found one at WALMART! I never like their clothes but a $12 cardigan that was just what I needed, sure! Think it’s even the faded glory brand. Unsure if it’d still be in the stores though….and it was not a full length sleeve…more of a longer short sleeve. Goes great over my mint colored maxi dress.

We could be dress twins. You could always ask the Stitch Fix people to send you one!

Thank you so much for sharing your fixes! I am totally enjoying the pictures! I am working on paring down my closet. I tried one big purge and it half worked. Now I am slowly getting rid of the clothes that I like, but just don’t fit right.

On a completely other note, what is going on with David’s oak tree endeavor? I haven’t heard anything about it for a while.

Thanks again for blessing me with your blog.
