We had a pretty uneventful Valentine’s Day. We went out to lunch the day after, and Knut got me some chocolate covered strawberries which I shamefully ate in one sitting. I think I could eat those all day long. The kids made their own Valentines, and I splurged in the dollar aisle and got them little mailboxes to decorate. Ironically, the mailboxes are used most often to store chess pieces. At least that is what Solveig and Ingrid like to do with them most. Rooks go in the pink ones, bishops in the red ones, switch them around. Put pawns over in that one, take them out again. You get the picture.
Solveig is stuck on the book “Grandpa Bud” and wants to read it 1,000 times a day, so we take shifts with her, and I think Daddy, Mommy, Silje, and David all know it by heart. I love that David has very willingly joined our “read to the little kid crew.”
As I type this morning, I am listening to Solveig and Elias have a conversation in their little voices. So serious. David is working on his math, and Silje has decided to organize the bookshelf. Ingrid is looking at a blank journal very seriously, as she holds it upside down. Today I’m going to bring down the stress level by focusing on the little things. So often when the kids are playing quietly, I rush and hide away for a little “break.” I don’t sit in their midst and enjoy them. At least, not as often as I should.
There are so many things on my mind this morning. Largely, what is for lunch and supper tonight. When can I get to the grocery store. What am I going to submit to X yarn company who has asked for a few proposals. Then there are a few friends whose burdens are weighing heavily on my heart. The to-do lists on Monday mornings are crushing, aren’t they?
So pour your cup of coffee, pull up a chair, and let’s bless each other. Let’s share those moments that uplift, because they are there. How have you been blessed this last week?

February 17, 2014 at 8:20 pmI’m blessed that today is a bank holiday, which means my husband is able to stay home with the kids while I go and get a much-needed haircut. I have put it off for far too long because it’s hard trying to arrange childcare in the middle of the day for my 4 kids. And here in our small town, by the time my husband gets off work, the hair salons are already closed. So I am very excited and blessed to go have this little bit of “me” time today.
