Busy! Busy! Busy! I’ve been in the complaining mode lately. I hate the clutter of the days, and I’m in the minority of people who long for winter. I long for the quiet days of family at home, and getting up from my knitting to add wood to the fire, and reading literature to the kids on the couch. These days it’s VBS here, camp there, work outside, “putting away” food inside for the winter. Work!
So I thought I’d take a moment this late in the day, and rejoice on some of the beauties of summer.
Homemade cinnamon rolls Sunday morning with cream cheese frosting. In the summer, we don’t have Sunday School, and that makes Sunday mornings leisurely and slow. We don’t rush about. We stay after church and talk for ages, and leave with still plenty of time before lunch. We have time for fun breakfasts. What a blessing!
I love how I can throw open the windows and let in fresh air. I love how much easier it is to clean things out and set things outside, and just make everything new and right again.
Fresh strawberries from the garden. Maybe I should have lead off with this one. The beauty of this little fruit, and the amazing taste of it ripening just outside the door cannot be emphasized enough.
Playing in the dirt, and picking flowers. I’m not sure why, but my girls get 10 times dirtier than my boys. The boys like to race on the bikes, and run around kicking a soccer ball. The girls like to sit and make mud pies and just bathe in dirt. They love to crawl through the gardens and collect pretty things. I may not be raising fine ladies, but I do believe we’re raising kids who love the land. We are so blessed with dirt. It’s a marvel to think about what a blessing dirt is when you just stop and ponder it for awhile. It’s quite amazing.
Roses in full bloom. I get to pick another full bouquet about every 3 days, so rooms in the house are getting filled with flowers. How cool is that?
I go to sleep exhausted every night, and every day is so full that I can barely catch my breath. But make no mistake, we are blessed indeed.

July 3, 2013 at 3:23 amBeautiful pictures! You are so surrounded by beauty. I love the picture of the barn (? garage?) – gorgeous. Sometimes I feel so bogged down that I have to stop and be intent on the beauty that IS around me to reorient myself again.
