Yarn Along

Book Reviews, knitting

My goodness, these yarn along posts make me feel slow in my progress in anything these days.  Yes, I am still reading Family Friendly Farming, and I’m still reading One Thousand Gifts.  I’m almost done with the farming book, and Knut is hoping to pass it along soon, so that’s been taking priority.  I still love it.  I think I’ll be referencing back to it in the future.  It’s so much more on parenting and encouraging family relationships than farming, in my honest opinion.

I’ve been compiling my own list of Eucharisteo, as in One Thousand Gifts.  My list is very much in the beginning stages.

1. Long talks about the heart with my daughter.
2. A wild rabbit hopping along the woodpile behind the house.
3. The smell of coffee.
4. Speckles on an egg.
5. The milk-drunk baby face.
6. Fluffy fur on a fat squirrel.
7. Warmth of the fire.
8. The bright light that snow reflects into the house.
9. Waking up with a baby snuggled close and breathing deep.

The author of the book has also inspired me through her blog to memorize 3 chapters of Romans this year, so I’ve been working on Romans 1.  It’s going slower than I would like too.

My Tsu Sweater has graduated to lovely lace section.  I’ve tried it on since it’s top down, and then spent a day worrying that it was too tight.  I had to bring out my swatch again, and plug the numbers to reassure myself one more time that this lace will actually block much bigger, and it actually won’t be clingy as it is doing now.  Just in case, I may continue to exercise off this baby belly.  That worry is the risk of trying on an unblocked, top-down project in progress.

The yoke is totally better than my last 3 versions of it, though!  I wanted ribbing there, and I tried last summer when this design was originally in the works.  I tried several different stitch counts, and several different variations, and the ribbed top never lay right, and always stretched much too much.  It’s like the whole shoulder area went limp.  So I finally found a solution by making the top not a ribbed one at all.  It’s faux ribbing, and actually a pretty stiff slipped stitch design made to look like ribbing.

This may just work…

Knitting and reading alongside my sweet friend, Ginny.

Nice book selections — I’ve read both. Your sweater is coming along nicely. 🙂

Knitting can be slow when life is happening. I read Ann’s book back in December. I have been keeping my own list and am at 667 today! It has become a journal of sorts as well as thankfulness.

Love the list, those who have more than one kid are so lucky.

    Hi Gretchen,

I tried leaving a note last week, but it didn’t work. Hopefully, today it does. I wanted to let you know I read Ann’s book last year and started my own journel of thanksgivings. It has been a good discipline to remember my blessings each day. I am working up to 3000. My goal is 10,000. It is so good to see God’s faithfulness and how far He has taken our family this past year. You’ll love having this list to look back on over the year when things don’t go quite as planned.
