I have gained back almost all of the body that I frogged last week. I’m happily remembering how fast knitting in worsted is. It’s been awhile, as I feel like I’ve been stuck in either sport weight, or color work for awhile. This (mostly) stockinette or ribbing in worsted weight feels like I’m knitting in light speed. I’m doing much better at working on the written portion of the pattern along with the knitting portion, instead of leaving all of the writing until the end like I usually do. I’m hoping to work my way into writing the complete pattern before I knit it. I’m almost there. Almost.
Now that Knut and the kids have finally finished reading The Hobbit in the evenings, in place of our normal school read-aloud times, I’m finally back to our school list. We’re reading The Witch of Blackbird Pond
which is about a Puritan community back in the time of the English Colonies. I am personally getting into it, although I’m not sure about the kids. Silje understands most of it, but I wouldn’t say she’s “into it” yet. So far there are no ponies or puppies or princesses yet, so that’s a downer for her. I really think it’s a stretch for David, and I’m remembering that at the beginning of the year I was reading one chapter from his read aloud list and one chapter from Silje’s read aloud list every night, and perhaps it’s not good to just read from Silje’s list. I need to move a few grade levels down for at least part of our reading each night.
And that’s all I can write about today. I have about 10 loads of laundry ahead of me today.
Linking up with Ginny again.

February 6, 2013 at 3:10 pmWhat did your kids think of The Hobbit? Mine loved it. They’re begging to see the movie yet, but I want to see it first to make sure it’s appropriate for them, and that hasn’t happened yet.
I’m going through the same thing with our current read aloud. We’re reading Five Little Peppers and How They Grew, which is Little House on the Prairie-ish. No talking animals, or oompa-loompas, or flying people. Last year we almost exclusively read fantasy, and so they don’t have an appreciation for non-fantasy. Oh well!
Have never read The Witch of Blackbird Pond. Will have to check it out!

February 7, 2013 at 3:07 pmI’d like to know your kids thoughts on the Hobbit, too. We are on Chapter 7 with my girls, who are 11 and 9 years old. They are enjoying it, drawing picture to go with it and eating seed cake (my younger daughter wants a poppy seed cake next time instead of the caraway seed one, I have to admit, it sounds better to me)! ♥ My husband and I are considering letting them watch the movie after…

February 18, 2013 at 6:45 pmThe Witch of Blackbird Pond is one of my favorites. I must have read it 6 times as a kid. I have not yet been able to convince my daughter to read it though.
