Being a mom is hard work, no matter if you stay at work, work at work, home educate, or whatever. I find that as a mother, things fly at me all day long. I’m breaking up fights, handing out crackers, changing diapers, reading books, laying kids down for naps. Sometimes Most of the time, things happen all at once. Elias wants milk in his cup the same time David pulls Silje’s hair, the same time Solveig just wants to snuggle, and certainly this all happens when Knut walks in the door at any given moment.
So sometimes I pretend I’m a ninja. This breaks up the day and helps me feel like a superhero, which is always a perk to the day.
When I finally got Solveig down for her nap, and have to walk across our super squeeky hallway and down the super squeeky steps, I realize that I know the specific steps I need to take to do it silently without waking her up. It’s like Indiana Jones having to know Hebrew to get across some bridge. I jump from spot to spot across my booby-trapped hallway that threatens no nap time. I cross it like a ninja.
I like my Ergo baby carrier, but I love the ninja-esque feeling of the Moby and Mai Tai. Sticking the baby in and then wrapping all the ties around me like fancy origami I can’t help but make noises like I’m doing karate with a few comic book “swoosh!” sound effects for good measure. It’s fun to think of a mother’s ability to sooth a crying baby like a super power.
I like homemade crackers, but we have Ritz on hand now for some Christmas cookie recipe. (Ritz/peanut butter sandwiches and dunked in almond bark…one of Knut’s favorites). I bought an extra box just for snacks. The really cool thing about round crackers is how you can toss them to the kids like Frisbees, or dare I say those ninja like razor things in Jackie Chan movies? Not that I’m imagine hurting my kids with razors or anything…this analogy is falling apart fast.
So in other news, we just finished a small unit on ancient samurai in school yesterday. Guess where my brain has been?
hahaha I love you, you’re so cool!
those are delicious cookies! i always think of them around Christmas time because Linda makes them and I would always glean them off of Rondi 🙂
Mmmm! Ritz Christmas cookies! Yummy! BTW, your great Uncle Otto brought back a Samurai sword from Japan when he fought there during WWII. I’m not sure the story behind it, but I bet it’s a good one. Cousin Kathy may know. Great post, Ninja Mommy!
LOVE this post!!! You are the coolest ninja mom I know! 🙂
You are hilarious.
