My Girls

family

Silje’s new thing is being able to hold Solveig now.  Not just on the sofa.  She can walk around holding her for short periods of time.
I cannot begin to tell you what a help it is.  She’s been begging me for months to let her.  As I’ve watched other girls her age do the same with their siblings, I’ve realized that it might be okay.
They simply adore each other.  Silje loves the responsibility and importance that comes with helping, and Solveig loves being doted upon by a little person.  It’s a match made in heaven.

I loved it when my oldest could do that with the little ones, too, but she was even older. The only rule we had was no walking down the steps in socks! Too slippery! Your girls are beautiful!

I think it helps that Solveig is so strong and mobile for her age. I remember being the big sister and being able to help with little Anne Marie and Markie. 🙂 I felt so grown up! By the time Christine came along, I was already an experienced “babysitter”.

Matthew helps out with Sarah too. He loves that he can hold her and she will stop crying sometimes when he does!

AbsoLUTEly let her help you!! In doing so, you are allowing some even more special relationships to grow. Big sisters and brothers can do lots and lots of things with the baby–depending on baby’s age, often I will change the diaper and let an older child “finish them up” by snapping the onesie and the outfit.
Even the five yr. old can do this, I just put the baby down off the changing table so that there’s no chance of falling.
Big siblings are blessedly tender and careful with their baby brothers/sisters…
