Will Break for Sick Kids

family

So, with so many things coming up, I had quite the “to do” list going on for today. More work in the garden, an early trip to town so I could get lots of errands out of the way (including a ton of grocery shopping since there’s nothing in the house) and then I have to clean the bathrooms, fold some laundry, spend some much needed time with Lena, etc. etc.

We got one stop done in town, and Silje complained the whole time that her head hurt. I felt it and it wasn’t warm. She didn’t look pale. So I assumed she was just complaining and went on with our business. We were on our way to the second stop, which wasn’t necessary but I thought it would cheer Silje up. I know it sounds silly, but a new Walgreens opened up near us, and Silje has been asking to see the inside forever, so I thought we could go see what Walgreens had. I pulled in the parking lot, and Silje said the dreaded words: “I think I’m going to throw up.”

She didn’t…yet, but since I knew she wasn’t joking because if she was feeling well nothing would stop her from seeing a new store, we headed back home. No grocery stop, no bank stop, and there is still junk for goodwill in my trunk. I gave Silje a plastic bag that I normally have in the diaper bag for Elias’ dirty diapers (it was clean) and had her hold it all the way home.

We got home, I was still questioning my gut because she didn’t look pale, and she still wasn’t warm. I unloaded the few bags from Target, the one stop we managed, when I heard Silje throw up in the den. So we changed her clothes, and got her settled on the couch and turned on some cartoons as she says she’s sleepy and begs for food because her stomach is so empty now. (And no, that’s not a chicken pox, that’s a mosquito bite on her forehead…I’m pretty sure.)

I’m glad I ordered from Netflix “Hello Kitty Becomes a Princess” which should be arriving in the mail any minute. That should brighten up her day. David is doing pretty well, although I keep yelling at him to leave Silje alone. (He wants to make her feel better so he keeps trying to tickle her…which has the opposite effect he was going for.) And Elias looks as though 2 more teeth on the bottom and 2 teeth on the top will show themselves any minute. Although he’s handling it in the most charming way, and just buzzes his lips and gives drooly smiles.

I hope Silje gets well soon, and that whatever she has is not something that will spread. This is not the month for my kids to take turns being sick.

Oh that tender face, no smiles. You can just tell she is not herself. I’m so sorry!

How is she feeling today – and all the rest of you? No more sickness with anyone? Moms can’t get sick, of course, you know that.

Dads – well, that’s a different story. They are often as bad as having a sick child! Opps, did I say that?….. 🙂
