The amount of times I repeat myself each day would astound you. I’ve come to understand it’s just David’s way of practicing talking, and he enjoys it. It does not make it any easier.
For instance, we stopped by the bank today. As we are driving to the bank, around 10am, here’s the conversation in the car:
Silje: Where are we going?
Me: To the bank.
Silje: Why are we going to the bank?
Me: We need to deposit something.
David: Where are we going?
Me: (assuming he wasn’t paying attention to what Silje and I had just finished saying, even though he was sitting right next to Silje in the car.) We are going to the bank.
David: Why?
Me: Because we need to deposit something.
David: We need to deposit something?
Me: Yes.
David: Why do we need to deposit something.
Me: Because.
David: Can we go to a restaurant?
Me: No.
David: Why?
Me: Because it’s not time to eat, and we’re not eating at a restaurant today. We’re eating at home.
David: But I want to go to a restaurant! The one with the car game! (Godfather’s has a car arcade game that he liked when we were there last.)
Me: We’re not going to a restaurant, we’re going to the bank.
David: Why are we going to the bank?
Me: I already told you.
Silje: Where are we going?
Me: To the bank! To the bank! To the bank! We are going to the bank. We are going to make a deposit.
David: I want to go to a restaurant.
Me: I’m sorry David. We’re going to the bank.
David: Why?
If any of you find a mute button on kids, please let me know. I think I should have reminded them that our bank serves cookies and lollipops much sooner in the conversation.

July 3, 2009 at 2:38 amWhy is this so funny when it is someone else’s children and not mine? It is not quite as amusing when I realize I have just said the same thing 4 times in a row.

July 6, 2009 at 4:46 amI love it! I have the same conversations ALL the time, and Bella now loves the word “why”, so it drives me crazy! Our bank serves popcorn.
PS I tried to talk James into spreading grass clippings in my garden after I saw your post, but then we realized that we would just be putting more weeds in, so we scrapped that idea. I think we’re going to try straw.
