I’m thrilled to announce that my Rhubarb Cardigan is on the home stretch. It may not look it, but the tricky part of the shaping of this yoke is behind me. All that’s left is a bunch of stockinette stitch and the edging. So much of the knitting I have been doing lately has required such thought, that I’m so excited to have some “plain” knitting on the needles again to just speed through! I feel the need for speed! It might actually get done AND have the pattern in the tech editing phase when the rhubarb is up in the garden and ready for a photo shoot.
This cardigan was a continuation of my thoughts when designing the “Clarity Cardigan.” I love that cardigan (and I’m humbled that so many others do as well) and I wondered if the design could somehow translate into a summer cardigan. (Yes, where I live, cardigans are often warn in summer as well.) What if the same simplicity could have shorter sleeves, a less “heavy” gathering around the neck? Elegant enough to wear over a cute dress to a wedding, yet easy enough to wear with blue jeans.
Anyway, it’s not exactly like the other cardigan at all (shorter, no cowl, not double breasted, shorter sleeves, no pockets), but that’s where the idea started. Where it ended up is still yet to be revealed.
As for reading, I’m hanging out with Clara Parkes through her writing The Yarn Whisperer. It’s more about her life, and less about yarn than I expected, but I don’t love it any less for that. Her stories communicate beautifully, and it always relates to the yarn in some way.
Linking up at Ginny’s Yarn Along.

April 2, 2014 at 12:54 pmOh I love the color and I can’t wait to see what you come up with! I’m working on holding my yarn differently and practicing with simple patterns. I am slower now, but hoping to speed back up. I too have a need for speed these days. PS- I bought a gallon of paint yesterday 🙂

April 2, 2014 at 1:06 pmOh, what a lovely yarn bowl you have! I’ve never tried to knit a cardigan before, but I definitely understand the relief of moving past tricky, time consuming bits and getting to work on something simple and mindless. Can’t wait to see the finished product!

April 2, 2014 at 7:35 pmI’m glad you are winding down on the cardi. It feels like such a relief when you can just “knit without thinking”. I have the Yarn Whisperer but I haven’t started it yet.

April 3, 2014 at 4:33 amI still love the color of your rhubarb and am eager to see it when it’s done. Sometimes it feels a little like those of us who read along are a part of the process too as we see it unfold each week! I too love that yarn bowl! How do you keep little fingers from knocking it to the floor accidentally and breaking it?
